Saturday 28th Only
Special ‘Tanker Train’ rideable freight experience

On Saturday 28th September 2024, we will be offering a unique experience, as we will have Class 09 locomotive No. 09 106 available to haul the tank wagons, courtesy of Road and Rail Steam Services and the National Wagon Preservation Group. Joining the train will be our Queen Mary brake van, so you have a rare opportunity to join us! Return tickets available now for the following departures from Lydney Junction:

11:15
12:46
14:40

We’d suggest booking as soon as possible – tickets are limited due to the capacity of the Queen Mary brake van and will be popular due to the rare nature of the occasion!

Please note that departures for this will be at a different time from our normal brake van specials, and all will depart from Lydney Junction Station, instead of Norchard.

For details of the standard brake van specials which will return in the future, please see below.

About

Join us for a special journey through the Forest in one of our restored brake vans, hauled by a heritage diesel locomotive, to experience the wind in your hair as you experience life as a goods guard back in the time when the Forest’s railways were a vital transport route for freight.

Your full round trip begins with a non-stop run to Lydney Junction, followed by a journey through the forest north to Parkend, where you will be able to see the locomotive run round, before returning to Norchard to complete your journey. Unfortunately, this experience is unsuitable for under 12’s.

Departures

10:30, 12:15 and 14:00.

Your journey lasts between 1 hour 29 minutes and 1 hour 43 minutes, depending on the departure time.
