We are proud to announce that the Dean Forest Railway was this year’s finalist in the Tourism category at the Forest Business Awards.
This was a hotly contested category, as the Forest of Dean has a plethora of Tourist attractions, and we’re very proud to be the runners-up to Coleford Town Council, who won the award for their exceptional work in increasing tourism in the area.

The Friendly Forest Line
Our 4 1/2-mile line runs through beautiful woodland and countryside, offering you a chance to experience the relaxing pace of a typical country branch line. With our five stations along the way, you have time to explore the local area, taking in woodland walks and country pubs or venturing down to the Severn estuary to explore Lydney Harbour with its fantastic views across the Severn.

When we wanted to take a ride on this beautiful historical woodland steam train we arrived too late for the latest day trip at the station (Parkland). ‘No worries’ said Doug the Station Master, he closed the station took his car and offered our family a ride to the next station (Norchard) to catch the last train... what a nice man!! The kids loved it and the service at this Dean Forest Teain ‘Mince Pie Day’ just fantastic, thank you to all the passionate volunteers who keep this heritage alive for many future generations.

This was our third year of taking our grandson on a Santa Special at Norchard. The whole experience is a step back in time with no hurry and plenty of excitement for the kids as they see Santa and his elves back and fore through the train before they get their present. We were a group of 8 this year and we all (adults and children) thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

This is a great attraction run solely by volunteers. There was a great community atmosphere and everyone contributed to it being a fun outing. The train carriages were festively decorated and the staff worked tirelessly to ensure everyone was happy. We even had a photo op with the driver and stoker. The shop has a good range of affordable souvenirs. The steamy platforms were very atmospheric. Who doesn't love a steam engine?.........and Santa

We chose the Dean Forest Railway as an 80th birthday treat for a family member, and we certainly weren't disappointed. Our party of 9 was well catered for, the cream tea delicious with cups of tea in abundance served by very friendly staff. The steam train ride was very pleasant and enjoyed by young and old, a truly memorable day for our family.
