Locomotive Roster

Locomotive Roster

Our locomotives are the “stars of our show”, both steam and diesel. As enthusiasts ourselves, we know it’s often important to know what will be running and on what day. On this page you’ll find our upcoming locomotive ‘Roster’ for public running days, listing which locomotive is due to work which trains on what dates during a certain period. Specific rolling stock and Diesel Multiple unit numbers aren’t listed here as they change quite frequently. To find out more information about our fleet, click here for steam, here for diesel and here for DMU’s.

It is important to note that our locomotives are heritage equipment maintained by volunteers, therefore the list below can be accurate when published but change last minute due to failures, repairs or a myriad of other reasons! If you are travelling a long way speficially to see something, we encourage you to contact us either close to or on the day itself to ensure that the day is running ‘as booked’ below. Infomation provided here is only published when it is confirmed ‘ready for publication’, sometimes this can be called quite late and this will be indicated below.

*Right now, you might see a note below that says “Steam locomotive not running due to fire risk” and you might be wondering what that’s all about! Steam locomotives emit red hot sparks and cinders both from their chimneys and their firebox grates underneath the cab; it is unavoidable and a basic part of how they work.

If these red hot embers fall from the engine and find some tinder dry grass or vegetation they can set alight lineside fires. If not detected soon enough these small lineside fires can develop into large wildfires! In a bid to protect both our surrounding Forest and neighbouring property, as well as avoiding adding extra stress to our local emergency services, when conditions are very dry we will stop running our steam locomotives.

The decision to suspend steam operation is always a difficult one to reach and is not taken lightly: many factors and assessments are made. We understand this can cause disappointment and we apologise for this, but it is imperitave we strive to protect our Forest and neighbouring properties and put this important responsibility first.
