Experience the history of the Dean Forest Railway, with historical commentary aboard the evening steam train.

An evening train complete with an historical commentary along the route of the line looking at the history of the Severn & Wye system from 1808 until closure and also of all of the industrial sites which once existed along the route between Lydney Junction and Parkend. The commentary will be provided by local historian and Severn & Wye author, Ian Pope, who will also be available after the trip in the shop for a signing of his latest book, Severn & Wye Railway Volume 5 (as well as volumes 1, 2 & 4).

You tickets will also include a ploughman’s (see options below), which will be ready at your table before you board.

Whilst we won’t be able to provide our usual on-board bar service, we will now be offering drinks pre-orders – available here – which will be set up ready at your table before boarding.

In order to ensure distancing on board we will have a limited number of bookings available – find out more about our changes in our COVID-19 Statement  – we will also be limiting booking sizes to a maximum of 8 per booking, and a minimum of 2. Please note that everyone in one booking will be seated together, so must be in the same ‘bubble’. Each booking will then be distanced from other passengers on board.

Your train will depart from Norchard Station on Forest Road (GL15 4ET) at 18:15, travelling north to Parkend, where there will be a short break where you may alight for the toilet facilities.

The train will then depart Parkend, heading south to Lydney Junction, where there will be a short wait for the engine to ‘run round’, during which time you may use the facilities here.

Finally the train will return to Norchard Station to complete it’s 90 minute round trip.
