Diesel Gala 2017
Date: 15th to 17th Sep -
Timtetables are now available for all three days:
D8059 has been based at the Severn Valley Railway since 2011, and is a regular visitor to other preserved railways. The locomotive was built in 1961, and was preserved in the early 2000s. The Class 20 locomotives are known as ‘choppers’ due to their distinctive engine noise and have proved very popular with railway enthusiasts.
D8568, built in 1963, is the only survivor from its class of 117 locomotives. Similar Looking to our own class 14 diesel locomotives, the class 17s endured a similarly short period in British Rail service, with D8568 being withdrawn only 8 years later, in 1971. After spending the next 11 years as an industrial shunter, it was preserved in 1983 and today lives at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway.
Our Event builds on our previous successful galas, and we will be offering rideable freight trains, which is a great way to experience our line, feeling the gradients and seeing the locomotives working to their full capacity.
